RIP Lancelot

Lancelot
[approx 2007/8 - 2013]

Our favourite cockerel, Lancelot, died this morning.  He had become the rather stately older gentleman of the flock in the latter months of his life, and was attacked by another cockerel which he had been quite happily living with in the flock with the hens.  This left him quite traumatised, so he and a couple of his wives moved house.  He seemed to recover, but we noticed some weakness developing lately, and sure enough, he passed on today.  He will be much missed, as he was such a character, and very well loved.  He came to us in the prime of his life, aged about 2 or 3, so I hope he enjoyed his "twilight" years with us and his ladies.

I hate to ask you this Morgan but are you going to eat him? We had pet rabbits years ago and I've never eaten rabbit since. I read somewhere if you are going to eat anything you rear dont give it a name,
Love M xxxx

Thank you all for your kind words.

Ciao - no, we have buried him in UJ's garden this morning. We only ever eat the birds when we kill them specifically to eat, not when they die from old age or illness of any kind. I do have several young cockerels which may get fattened for the pot, but they will be dispatched before Christmas if that is the way they go.

Thanks for popping in xx

So sorry to hear about poor old Lancelot! I'm sure he had an extremely happy life with you but, like all little members of the family, will be much missed.
