Calling time on today

It has been a scorcher of a day today, so I started early on the chores and got the chooks all cleaned out and washing on the line by 8.30am; then two chaps turned up with our oil delivery [fab price of 50p/l] and it was time to get the FH moving for a doctor's appointment.  We got his INR checked with the nurse and then had a chat with the doctor, who is organising him an appointment for a CT scan, which should be through within the week, he predicts.

I've mown the lawn and finished a huge heap of ironing, cooked the tea, helped to encourage the YFG to revise for her exam tomorrow, and done some Davina boxing exercises with the EFG........I'm pooped for today, folks!

I think that blogging may be a bit sporadic this week - real life is getting demanding - I still haven't got the kitchen resorted out after the revamp, the garden is crying out for attention - there are seeds to be sown and seedlings desperate for bigger pots, and weeds growing like wildfire.......and the new preaching plan is out for the next quarter and I am taking 10 services in 14 weeks, so I have work to do there too.....the YFG has GCSE Eng Lit in the morning and is to be at school by 8am so that means that Mum's taxi has to do duty!  I am off to bed now because it will be another early start to be ready to leave here by 7.45am.  Wish her luck, friends, please xxx

Good luck with the exams. I too was involved with the 'encouraging revision', helping to test son etc. Like you, we had to act as taxi service as the exam times didn't tie in with school transport. How many exams is she sitting? x

Thank you, SusanM. She is just doing her English Lit papers this year, as she is only Y10. All the other subjects will be next year...it's going to be worse next year, so I think it is a good experience for her to do this one this year and have a clue about how it all works. She has to do one paper this morning and then another on Thursday afternoon, each of 90 minutes.

The school transport would have got her to school in time for the exam, but the school were offering a free breakfast and time with the teacher before the exam, so she wanted to take advantage of that opportunity, which is why I had to take her to school: that was all from 8am, and usually the school bus picks them up at about ten past. I met the bus leaving the village at 8.25 when I was coming back in!

Our school bus broke down last week on the day some of the kids had an exam. Fortunately our son got a lift in the car. A replacement bus was sent but arrived at school after the exam had started. Enough stress on exam day without that! My son likes to arrive at school early on the day of exams too. I've lost track of which year Y10 is since we left England. Is it the same as S4 in Scotland ie 15 to 16 years old?

Hi SusanM - sneaking back on to the computer in my lunchbreak from gardening! Y10 is for kids turning 15 in the school year, so anyone turning 15 from 1st Sept 2013 to 31st August 2014 is in Y10 this year - the YFG won't be 15 until the middle of August, so she is one of the very youngest in the year - she does OK though!

I think that the age groups are worked out differently in Scotland though, as the EFG also has a birthday in August and was in the same year as her friend whose birthday was in Sept when we were in Cupar, which wouldn't have happened here.

So to answer your question, I reckon Y10 must be the same as S3?

Good luck to YFG with the exam. My daughter is doing hers at the moment and we are leaving at 7-30am to get her in on time. Her school are doing the breakfast thing and she's paranoid that the school bus will break down and not get her in on time!
