And it went like this...

A conversation here this afternoon:

[Me] "FH, your bees are going mad out here!  You'd better come and look!"
[FH] "They are fine; I looked at them this morning..."
[Me} "But that was ages ago..."
[FH] "They are all right!" and I detect a slightly superior tone - he IS the beekeeper, after all...
Doorbell rings, and he jumps up to go and answer it
[Mrs Next-door] "Ooooh, FH, your bees are making a terrible din, I can hear them in my garden! Are they all right?"
[FH] "Oh! I didn't know - I'll come and have a look!"

And I exit stage right, quietly seething!  The bees swarmed, and he had to go and deal with it all.  Again.  The second swarm in a week, so I think I have an idea of when things are not going quite right in bee-world.

This happens frequently here - not the swarming, but this kind of conversation - I can tell him something and he takes not a lot of notice of the information, but when someone else tells him the exact same thing, it is suddenly the most important fact he has heard all year, and he comes to tell ME, whereupon I now act all interested and don't say, "But I told you that yesterday/last week/etc" although, of course, I am dying to do just that.

So is it his age?  Or perhaps he thinks I don't know what I am talking about?  Or maybe he doesn't listen to a word I say?  I hope it is the first or the last, somehow!  Or is it a man thing?

A MAN THING! Hubby pretends he is hard of hearing, frankly he just ignores me. We had his hearing tested by the way so I am certain of this :)

Its a man thing. I can have a conversation with OH and he will agree with everything I say and then when the subject comes up again he denies ever taking part in the conversation.

Last night we talked about something and a few minutes later he brought the subject up again, afraid I lost it a bit and muttered through clenched teeth 'do you ever listen to anything I say or am I talking to the wall'!! Another variation when he wanders off half way through a conversation.......talk to yourself A, you will live a lot longer!! I blame his mother he used to switch off when she started on, and he does the same to me....wretched woman was always nagging about something, so when he thinks I am getting into nagging mode, the button clicks and he swears blind I never said anything. Its most frustrating....

I am sorry to hear that you are both suffering the way I am BUT I am relieved not to be in this boat on my own! So glad that it is not just my OH who is like this...

Definitely a man thing, if they listen to us they're "henpecked". If they listen to someone else who says the same thing is doesn't touch them like hearing it from us.

It is definitely a man thing. I have had it with workmen as well - my lips move, sound comes out but some how it doesn't reach them. It makes me feel invisible and sometimes I feel very upset. I've stopped bothering with a lot of things. If anyone has a solution, please share! WS xx
