Party poopers

I know that some people don't get on with others, but I am only going to be 40 once, and it seems to be a threshold in one's life that is worth a little extra celebrating.  With that in mind, I invited everyone whom I would like to share in the celebration with me.

I have had two messages today from people asking if specific other people are expected.  One group, on being told that the objects of their questioning will be at the party, said that was OK, and they just wanted to know, but they will still be there.  Thank goodness for that!

However, I am not sure that the second questioner will come now that I have replied in the affirmative to the request....

I had long chats with the lovely UJ before I started all this, concerning the wisdom of getting this disjointed family of mine all in one place.  He is like me and has no quarrel with any of them.  They disagree amongst themselves!  He and I hoped that people would come for MY sake, and be able to put their differences aside for an afternoon.

I have decided to not get upset about this, because I could so easily, but to let it go.  Those who want to be at the party will share the celebration with me, and the rest won't.  Perhaps if they are going to be uncomfortable, it will be better for them to stay away.

I think we should have a virtual party in spirit here, as there are some lovely people in the blogsphere who I would have loved to invite but you are all such a distance away!

The other slight party pooper is the organist - he was coming on Wednesday to have a look at the organ at the chapel and he didn't turn up!  I got an email Thursday morning to say he had arrived at 7.15pm, more than half an hour after the arranged time, by which time the FH had given up waiting and come home.  We are going to try again this Wednesday...

oh dear, this is the bane of my life and why I got married in secret, most of them wouldn't have come if I had invited them and it wouldn't have been good enough for most people!

I fell out with my Mum & Dad big time at my DH's 40th B'day party - or should I say they fell out with me. I'm still not sure exactly what I'm supposed to be guilty of?

All you can do is celebrate with those who want.

I went in to complete denial on my 40th. I went away for the weekend with two good friends and left everyone else out, including my lovely boys. I refused to have a single card with the number 40 on as declared I was 39 +1. Time has moved on and it doesn't feel so bad.

I hope you have an absolutely splendid party and I'll definitely be putting on my Gladrags to join your virtual party. What day is it and I will Blog you the photos to prove it?

Lots of love and Birthday Wishes Arwedd xx

Yep, know the feeling, can't tell you how many parties we have arranged in the past only to have people not bother to turn up when they have said they will. After 25 years of party giving have finally stopped now especially as we seemed to be the only party givers, the rest of the family socialised privately amongst themselves rather than invite the rest of the family, ie us! Also after giving amazing 50th parties for hubby and best friend (within 3 months of each other) i got bu**er all when it was mine. So, do your best, have a good time yourself and s*d the others. Hope it goes well.

What a shame about the disjointed family.....perhaps it's best if certain people don't come at least that way noone will feel uncomfortable/ argue and spoil your day

Shame about the organist people really have no concept of time and manners these days. We have been waiting 6 weeks for a tv aerial chap to come, he was booked to come at 8am on august 9th ........no call or anything yet :)

@Froogs - none of the family were at our wedding - it was just close friends from the town where we lived, a long way from the family. It was lovely!

Thank you for the supportive comments, all of you! They are much appreciated.

We are having the party here in the afternoon on Saturday next week, so raise a cup of tea and share a toast with us! Enjoy some home made cake, and perhaps a sandwich or two, and put on some of your favourite music, and you will be with us in spirit, and it will be lovely to share with you all!

It's a shame they couldn't put aside their differences in order to spend your special day with you! Don't let it get to you though - you'll have a better time without people bringing a downer on the party!

Well I'm definitely up for a virtual birthday party!

Like they say you can choose your friends but not your family and believe me I wouldn't choose some of our family!!!! It does make these kind of events tricky though - fingers crossed it goes OK :) Hugs from all of the family Mackay
