For the fifth year in a row, on a Thursday in August, we have made the journey to the school to pick up a brown envelope. It was GCSEs and then AS levels and A levels for the EFG, and then the GCSEs and now the AS levels for the YFG. One more year to go!
So we went with some trepidation this morning. We knew that the Geography hadn't been brilliantly taught in one half of the course, and we were all too aware that a good chunk of the Politics hadn't been taught at all.....so I was hugely thrilled at the result. The YFG is so disappointed with the E for Politics that we have to keep reminding her that the A for Geography is a small miracle and the B for Religious Studies is very very good. She worked so very hard for those results that I am one very proud mummy tonight. She does mention often that no one in the family has ever got an E before - we reply that no one has ever tried Politics before.....she joked to her big brother that at least she knows she can rule out Politics as a career now! She will do those papers for Politics again next year when she does the A level papers, and hope for a better outcome. A new teacher has been appointed so we can hope that he will be more effective.
All in all - a good outcome, and far better than I had hoped. I hope that anyone else waiting for results today has achieved everything that they needed to progress to the next stages x

Well done YFG! I did my O level Maths in my 20's and it turned out, we hadn't been taught 1/3rd of the syllabus. Had to really dig deep to get a Result.
Just want to say that YFG should be jeffing proud! I know that she has worked her hardest and she has already done so much more than most. If she get an E with a rubbish teacher then she rocks! Well done her! x
Well done, YFG!
Apologies if I'm telling you something you already know, but if the school knows there was a problem with the politics teaching, try to get them to put it in her reference for uni applications. This is especially true if her predicted grade in the full A level is substantially higher and she's applying to places that need something close to that higher grade. At least where I've been, an AS grade of E with a predicted A-level of, say, B is likely to raise an admission tutor's eyebrows if no explanation is given.
I'm a year ahead of you, my sixth consecutive year of that journey to school in August. Very well done to your daughter, she's done brilliantly and there'll be chance to improve on the grade she's not so happy with next year, my daughter managed to do just that. I hope she enjoys the rest of the summer now before the hard work starts all over again.
Brilliant - well done. You are right to be a proud Mum x
Well done to all. When we picked up Eden's there were a lot of tears, both of joy and sorrow. I think most of her friends have sorted our Uni's even if they weren't their first choices. They seem to get it sorted pretty quickly, most had Uni's by the end of the day
